Vintage conditions	A great vintage for white wine with moderate consistent temperatures.	Colour Nose Palate	Clear pale straw with a green hue Lifted aroma of gooseberry, cut grass, snow pea and melon from the Sauvignon blanc overlying preserved lemon, white peach and fig from the Semillon with a little hint of wet slate. This 2012 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a fresh, crisp style of wine displaying the punchy grassy characters expected of the style and region with riper gooseberry, lime juice, honey dew, grapefruit and sherbet flavours. The palate has good intensity with an attractive minerality and chalky mouthfeel.

Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc is a Margaret River specialty with both varieties performing exceptionally well. The wonderful thing about Semillon in Margaret River is that it has its own distinctive regional expression. Most Australian Semillon expresses lime, citrus and lemon butter flavours but here in Margaret River the variety expresses itself with a distinctive grassiness that is similar and complimentary to the herbaceous characters of its blending partner Sauvignon Blanc. The trick is to get these greener, grassy, herbaceous flavours balanced with riper fruity elements which mean that harvest dates are critical to the end result.

Semillon is the backbone of this wine and it excels in this region providing great flavour and a crisp acid structure. Sauvignon Blanc compliments Semillon perfectly contributing to the wine’s aromatics and providing a long zippy finish. The wine is in the fresh, aromatic style quite familiar to those who know the region and we are more than pleased with the additional flavour, not always seen.

Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc came to prominence in Bordeaux, France where they are used to produce the dry wines of Graves and the ultra sweet botrytis styles of the Sauternes district. Of recent times, New Zealand and the Marlborough district in particular, are recognized as producing wines of considerable interest from Sauvignon Blanc and as the wine has become more affordable, it has found a ready market in Australia

Jo and Kevin Bell sent in this review for our 2010 SSB: "Ah yes! Our bottle of Happs 2010 SSB flew to Broome with its 11 siblings to
accompany our delightful local Threadfin salmon in providing us with a mouth-watering feast. Its delicate but enticing aroma preseeded its crisp
grassy and subtle fruity flavours, combining beautifully with the smooth buttery mouthful of fish. Images and fragrances of the Commonage rd bush in
the cool morning dampness floated through our minds, contrasting pleasantly with the humid warmth of Broome in wet season. Beads of water trickled
down the chilled surface of the bottle, inviting another taste... Cheers, Jo & Kevin Bell"
