Despite industry predictions of doom and gloom due to the late start of the harvest because of the lack of summer weather , we at Happs are very happy indeed with the quality of our crop this year. Wine maker Mark Warren has a glint in his eye and a big smile on his face as he now gets to work his magic with the many varieties of grapes from both our vineyards at Dunsborough and Karridale. He is telling everyone he expects some wonderful drinking beauties to evolve in the next year or so. Mark can be seen on the left above with a previous vintage in his hand as he celebrates at the pickers party to end the 2006 harvest at Dunsborough. To all the pickers at both vineyards , a job by hand well done. Roslyn Happ
Owner Director and
Leonie Ladhams Cellar Door Manager have recently returned from a promotional
wine trip to The wines chosen were our 2004 Sauvignon Blanc and our 2001 Merlot ,Which were both favorably received at all the functions we attended . Our first event was a formal tasting at the Australian Embassy, followed by a party in the evening for 150 guests who tasted all the wines with great enthusiasm. Other events included liquor
store tastings and a formal dinner at the Imperial Plaza Hotel in Tokyo. At the
conclusion of each wine presentation, the five Australians who attended and
represented their wines were asked to join in and sing “Waltzing Matilda “for
the Japanese audience.
The trip proved to be a great success and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves immensely so I hope we can look forward to a long and prosperous relationship with our agents Vinos Yamazaki and their wonderful staff. The reaction to our wines in Japan is very positive and we look forward to expanding our business in that country through this promotional trip.
