Exceptional wine judged in the top 5 nationally THREE HILLS Charles Andreas 2002. This wine has been placed as one of the top Cabernet Sauvignon wines of 400 tasted during the year by Winestate magazine. The top five included, the following Saltram of Barossa Mamre Brook Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 ,Flint’s of Coonawarra Gammon’s Crossing Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2003 , Clairault Estate Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2002 and Vasse Felix Heytsbury 2002. It is notable that three of the top five wines came from Margaret River, one from Coonawarra and one from the Barossa which is not bad for a magazine published in South Australia relying wholly upon three judges from that state. |

Happs Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2005 ($16) This wine is the typical fruity, grassy expression of this classic blend with good mid palate flavour. In Australia this style has found a natural home in Margaret River and expresses itself as a light, tight, zesty and crisp wine with a high level of drinkability. Happs Chardonnay 2004 ($18) This quality Margaret River Chardonnay represents great value at this price! This is a full bodied and intriguingly complex chardonnay with lovely delicate toasty oak threading through a mix of stone fruit and melon with rich cashew and other stone fruits evident. The palate structure is very good. Displays some elegance and depth. 86/100 Ray Jordan in Guide to Wine 2005/06 Two white wines are being introduced into the Three Hills range for the first time. Pre-release reviews follow; Three Hills Viognier 2004 Wow, Erl appears to have struck something here. Incredible intensity of orange blossom, citrus and gentle muted musk on the nose. It’s classic viognier. The palate is simply stunning. Has a degree of unctuous viscosity but also ample tight restraint and wonderful delivery to a very long finish. Very, very exciting for the first white release under the Three Hills label. 93/100 Ray Jordan in Guide to Wine 2005/06 Three Hills Eva Marie – Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2004 The second of the white wines to be released under the Three Hills label is a wine we have called Eva-Marie. It is made from classic white varieties of Bordeaux namely Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and in no way resembles the simple fruity styles that are commonly made in Australia. This is a serious wine with weight, texture and complexity. The wine making involves skin contact, barrel ferment and maturation, lees aging and stirring and some malo lactic fermentation. The name Eva-Marie is a tribute to the wives of the two Happ brothers Charles and Andreas. Three Hills Sangiovese 2004 This is another exciting first release wine under the Three Hills label. This wine combines the sweet ripe fruit characters that we expect of Australian red wines with savouriness that can be seen in European wines. A wine with a difference. Three Hills GSM (Grenache Shiraz Mataro) 2004 Previously we have released a Grenache under the Three Hills label but with the Mataro maturing at Karridale we now have the option of producing this traditional blend found in Southern France. The wine is still 73% Grenache but the addition of Shiraz and Mataro gives it greater mid palate fruit intensity and length. Another enjoyable alternative to the mainstream. Three Hills Merlot 2003 We can’t believe this wine did not win a gold medal – it was so close so often. Awarded Silver 2005 Perth Royal Wine Show Silver 2005 Margaret River Wine Show Silver 2004 Mount Barker Wine Show 90 Points James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2006 Stop Press !!! - We have just been advised this wine achieved top in its category in the Winestate magazine Southern Western Australia Tasting with 5 stars. This will be published in March/April 2006. Hi, My name is Thuy. I am doing a work experience stint at Happs. A little information about myself: I was born in Vietnam, right in Hanoi, a quite and peaceful city. All my family members are there. After graduating from high school, my mother thought I should study abroad and experience the world outside our small country. So I went to study Marketing in University in Holland and England. The idea of working in a winery came to me very sudden. I had a German friend while studying in a Holland school and he always showed me his fruit wines every time I visited his place. He made them himself and tested them on me. We had party every Thursday night at school, students came to the bar and stayed there until 2 or 3 am in the morning. I became an alcoholic after 3 years of doing the same thing every week. Just kidding!!! The fact is I like drinks in happy time. Wine fulfills my demand in a drink in aspect of color, taste, aroma and alcohol. Why should I not stay and work in a winery? What a good idea, I thought and told my tutor. She helped me to find and apply to Happs. Then I came and to be overwhelmed by the kindness and warmth of the people here, from a vineyard worker to office and bar staffs and the boss, I feel very at home. My experience is I not only know much more about wines, but also drink wine every day. And not just that, I learned how to enjoy my life a lot more, having close friends and grateful for our relationships. I am sure this experience had changed me and directed me to a completely new stage of life and the people here will be my life time friends.
