Vintage conditions	A warm dry vintage that was about 2 weeks early	Colour Nose Palate	Deep red with a dark red hue Lifted aroma of red fruit, mocha and violets with hints of blackberry and tomato leaf. This is a wine with an impressive structure and depth of flavour. The wine displays aromas of ripe red berries, violets and a slight forest floor note. The flavours are concentrated, ripe and dominated by sweet berry fruit characters that soak up plenty of top quality French oak. The fine slightly chalky tannins give the wine texture and structure, yet they finish fine and long.

Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc share some flavour characteristics that are uniquely Bordeaux. Perhaps they share genes from Sauvignon Blanc. Hence the fresh, herby green element to the flavour, the hint of capsicum and asparagus. Cabernet Franc is distinguished by the fact that, when under-ripe, it is quite thin and herbaceous.

When truly ripe Cabernet Franc develops the aroma of violets and becomes the variety with the potential to add most to the aromatics of a blend. At the same time the green elements on the palate are very much softened and this variety becomes an extremely valuable component of the blend. More than once we have begun our deliberations as to the blend that is to constitute Charles Andreas with Cabernet Franc.

Last night my wife and I enjoyed a bottle of 2001 Cabernet Franc we purchased from the cellar door in 2006.rnrnIt has been cellared in our wine fridge
since that time and we were very excited to be able to enjoy such a distinctive wine.rnrnThe colour was still vibrant purple, very clear with a small
tinge of brick red. There was a hint of vanilla on the palate and the nose was still very robust. All in all the wine has held up well, with plenty of
fruit still present.rnrnMost enjoyable and we look forward to buying more of this wine soon. I don't know if we will be able to wait as long to drink
it though !!
